Date gone wrong: Man pushes girlfriend into 1,000ft gorge: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her boyfriend after she refused to marry him. The accused was arrested after police cracked the case and recovered the body of victim.
The shocking incident came to light from Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district. The victim was identified as Tarannum Bashir Naik, 23. She was an engineering student. The accused was identified as Sripad Vadar, 25. According to sources, the duo had been in a relationship for 4-5 years. Tarannum’s marriage was fixed 4 months ago. So, she started avoiding Vadar. Disturbed by her changed behaviour, Vadar wanted to meet her for the last time before she got married. Vadar took his girlfriend Tarannum to the Naikwadi waterfall under the pretext of an outing on Friday(October 9, 2026).
Upon reaching the top of the waterfall area, the Tarannum informed her boyfriend that their relationship couldnot continue as her marriage had been arranged elsewhere. The couple had an heated argument. Tarannum refused to change her mind. In a fit of rage Vadar pushed Tarannum into a 1,000 foot deep gorge. While trying to conceal the crime, the accused went to the Bhudargarh police station a later on Saturday. He produced a narrative story before the police saying that Tarannum slipped and fell into the gorge while they were taking a selfie.
However, police grew suspicious and started interrogating him. After repeated questions, Shripad confessed his crime and was subsequently arrested.

The victim’s body was eventually recovered from a depth of approximately 1,000 feet, following which it was sent for post-mortem examination at the CPR Hospital in Kolhapur. The body was handed over to her family following the autopsy.
The incident comes months after a similar murder in Pune, Maharashtra, was reported when a woman named Siya Goyal pushed her fiancé off a cliff of a fort along with her lover.
