Datia Assembly Bypoll: BJP denies ticket to Narottam Mishra: The Datia assembly election in Madhya Pradesh has led to significant internal tensions within the Bharatiya Janata Party. The BJP has cut off the ticket of former Home Minister Narottam Mishra and replaced him with youth leader Ashutosh Tiwari. Following this, his supporters became angry. Protesting the party’s decision to support Narottam Mishra, BJP workers blocked the Datia National Highway late at night, which has now ended.
Veteran BJP leader Narottam Mishra, who has been an MLA from the Datia assembly seat for 15 consecutive years from 2008 to 2023, had made full preparations to contest the by-election. After Narottam Mishra’s ticket was cut, his supporters in Datia protested. Datia assembly by-poll is scheduled for July 30. The angry supporters blocked the NH-44 and pelted stones at the police, injuring several police personnel, including the SP. Several kilometers-long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the highway, and traffic came to a complete standstill.
The SP said, ‘Seeing the situation deteriorating, the police fired tear gas shells, which incited the crowd and intensified stone pelting. In this attack, I, the additional SP and more than 6 jawans sustained serious injuries, who have been admitted to the hospital. After this, the police fired tear gas again and used force to disperse the rioters. Some people have been detained, while others have been warned to surrender.’
Expressing displeasure over the decision BJP District President Raghuveer Singh Kushwaha along with the entire district executive have resigned from their posts in masses.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Kumar Jha said nominations for the Datia assembly seat can be filed till July 13, while scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on July 14. The last date for withdrawl of nominations is July 16. Polling will be held on July 30 and counting of votes will take place on Aug 3.
