Dilip, Murali shine with silver, India’s medal count climbs to 15: India performed well on the seventh day of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026. India won one gold and two silver medals, taking its total medal tally to 15.
Maharashtra’s Dilip Gavit and Kerala’s Mohammed Basil set a great record in para athletics by bagging the Gold and Silver medals in the 100m freestyle race. Para-athlete Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the gold medal in the men’s 100m T47 event with a Games record. While Murali Sreesankar won his second consecutive Commonwealth Games silver medal in the men’s long jump. Apart from this, Indian boxers secured at least 10 medals by reaching the semi-finals. India now has three gold, nine silver and three bronze medals in its account. Despite this, the Indian team remains eighth in the medal table. Australia remains at the top with 103 medals.
27-year-old Murali Sreesankar has become the first Indian athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Games to win two consecutive medals in the long jump event. He also won silver at the 2022 Birmingham Games. In Glasgow, Jamaica’s Taze Gayle won the gold medal with a jump of 8.15m, while Scotland’s Stephen McKenzie (8.08m) got the bronze. Another Indian in the competition, Lokesh Satyanathan, finished fifth with a best of 7.97m. It was a flawless day for India’s boxing contingent at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday as Jaismine Lamboria, Narender Berwal, Ankush Panghal, Sachin Siwach, Arundhati Choudhary, and Sakshi Chaudhary sealed their places in the semifinals.
