FIH Pro League: India beat arch-rivals Pakistan 4-3: The Indian men’s hockey team delivered a stunning performance in the FIH Pro League. The team defeated Pakistan 4-3 in the FIH Pro League. With this victory, team India also maintained a 10-year-old record.
The match between arch- rivals India and Pakistan was played at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London on Tuesday. After a slow start in the opening quarter but in the next three quarters, India maintained its dominance. The match started with aggressive hockey from both the teams. In the opening minutes of the game, Pakistan put pressure on the Indian team. Pakistan got two penalty corners back-to-back and scored an early 1-0 lead.
In second quarter Abhishek and Neelkanth turned the match around. Abhishek scored on Dilpreet Singh’s brilliant cross to make the score 1-1. Soon after this, India got a penalty corner. Harmanpreet Singh’s drag flick was blocked by Pakistan, but Neelkant Sharma put the ball into the net on the rebound to give India a 2-1 lead. In the third quarter, Indian goalkeeper Suraj Karkera made a brilliant save. India’s Sukhjit Singh scored a goal and gave India 3-1 lead.India got a penalty corner in the last quarter. Rajinder Singh made the score 4-1 with an excellent drag flick.
Pakistan’s regular captain, Ahmad Shakeel Butt, was not with the team due to visa issues. Abu Mahmud took over the captaincy in his place. The head coach of the team was also not present in London and the manager took charge of the team.
