FIR Against Instagram, Facebook Over PM Modi Morphed Photo: Action has been taken in the case of many obscene, morphing and offensive content related to PM Modi being posted on social media. The police have registered a case against several account managers of Facebook and Instagram as well as the India head of Meta. The police said that based on the complaints, an investigation has been started and the accused are being identified.
In the last two days, Meta’s shares have fallen by around 12 percent. While rival company Microsoft’s shares have seen a spectacular jump of 15%. The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police has registered two cases against the India head of Meta and several Facebook and Instagram accounts. They are accused of allowing morphed and objectionable videos and photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be circulated on social media platforms.
Let us tell you that before the FIR was registered, Meta representatives were summoned by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. A few days later this action has taken place. The police had asked Meta to clarify what technology the company has with regard to AI-generated videos and fake ads. The police have clarified that the investigation is still in the initial stage and no final decision has been reached.
If the Indian government takes any strict regulatory action against Meta, it will have a direct impact on the company’s daily active users and ad revenue.
