IMD forecast heavy rainfall till August 8, wind speed may reach up to 30-40 kmph: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Odisha from August 2 to 8. The department has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall in several districts during this period.

According to the IMD’s midday bulletin, on August 2, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. During this time wind speed may reach up to 30-40 kmph.

For August 3, the Met department has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places over Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is also likely to occur in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

One or two places in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj are expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 4. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is expected over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

For August 6, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is also forecast in these districts. On August 7, heavy rain is likely at one or two places over Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput. On August 8, heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Nabarangapur, Rayagada and Koraput.

The weather department has urged residents to stay alert, keep an eye on weather forecasts, and avoid venturing outdoors in open areas during thunderstorms.
