‘Lost faith in hospital…’ Gitanjali moves HC to shift husband Sonam Wangchuk to private hospital: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, has been on hunger strike for 21 days. His wife Gitanjali J. Angmo in a statement made serious accusations against the Safdarjung Hospital and the government for her husband’s health condition.
Gitanjali J. Angmo said that if anything happens to Sonam Wangchuk, the hospital administration and the government will be fully responsible for it. Gitanjali said the hospital had informed the family that Sonam Wangchuk’s potassium level had dropped to 2.9, which was a life-threatening condition. But in the public health bulletin issued by the hospital, this figure was not mentioned, and only “Potassium level is decreasing” was written. They claim that an independent lab test showed a potassium level of 3.5, which is within the normal range.
Gitanjali said that she has filed a petition in the High Court demanding an immediate hearing. They say the family should be given the right to choose the hospital for their patient’s treatment and should be allowed to shift Sonam to a private hospital before her condition deteriorates further. Gitanjali claimed that she no longer trusts Safdarjung Hospital and has approached the High Court seeking permission to shift Wangchuk to a private hospital.
Sonam Wangchuk is currently admitted on the 8th floor of the emergency building of Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. A bulletin has been issued by the hospital administration on Sunday (July 19) morning stating that his condition is currently stable.
