Ola, Uber, Rapido Bike Taxi Services Suspended in Maharashtra: In a major regulatory move, the Maharashtra government has suspended bike taxi services operated by Ola, Uber, and Rapido after revoking their temporary licenses with immediate effect.
The decision comes after authorities found that these companies were allegedly operating petrol-powered bike taxis despite being granted permission to run only electric bike taxi services in the state. Officials say the violation goes against the rules set by the government and undermines the policy aimed at promoting environmentally friendly transport.
According to the government, the companies were given a one-month deadline earlier to submit the necessary compliance documents related to their electric bike taxi operations. However, since the required paperwork was not submitted within the stipulated time, the state decided to suspend their services.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the companies have now been given another month to provide the required documents and prove that they comply with the electric bike taxi policy. If they fail to do so, their licenses could be permanently revoked.
The Maharashtra government had originally permitted e-bike taxis to encourage eco-friendly transportation and generate employment opportunities for local youth. However, authorities claim that several operators continued to run petrol-powered bike taxis despite repeated warnings and enforcement drives.
Under the government’s latest directive, strict action will be taken against any petrol bike taxi found operating illegally. Both the driver and the vehicle owner could face legal action, and the motorcycle may also be seized by authorities.
The move is expected to significantly affect bike taxi services in cities like Mumbai and across Maharashtra, potentially impacting thousands of drivers who rely on these platforms for their livelihood.
At the same time, the government says the crackdown is necessary to ensure that transport companies follow regulations and support the state’s push toward cleaner and safer urban mobility.
