Sapan Samanta, who previously served as chairman of Tarakeswar municipality, was garlanded with a string of shoes. He was also forced to perform sit-ups, holding his ears, and bombarded with eggs and tomatoes by the angry locals. The locals were venting their anger over alleged irregularities and corruption related to the municipality during his tenure.
In West Bengal, public anger against TMC leaders is continuously increasing due to corruption. Even before this, many big leaders have faced public anger. No statement or explanation has been given by the TMC party on this matter.
