George Kurian resigns as Union Minister, President Murmu accepts resignation: Veteran BJP leader George Kurian resigned as Union Minister of State(MoS) for Minority Affairs and Fisheries on Tuesday. President Droupadi Murmu has accepted his resignation.
‘The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Shri George Kurian from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution,’ the Rastrapati Bhawan said in a statement. The Union Minister’s six year term,on June 21, in the Rajya Sabha has expired and the party did not renominate him to the Upper house of Parliament. He was not renominated, allegedly owing to the poor performance of the party in the Kerala Assembly elections.
George Kurian, 65, was serving as the Minister of State (MoS) in the third Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from August 2024. He is a senior leader of the BJP and has been a member of the party since its inception in 1980. George Kurian is not only a veteran leader of the BJP, but he has also practiced as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of India.
