Nationwide Bank Strike on February 12: Banking Services May Face Disruptions: Major bank unions across India have called for a nationwide strike on Thursday, February 12, 2026, raising concerns among customers about possible disruptions to banking services.

The strike call has been given by prominent banking unions, including the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI). These unions, along with 10 central trade unions (CTUs), have urged their members to participate in the general strike.

Why Have Bank Unions Called for a Strike?

The strike has been announced in protest against the four new labour codes notified by the government in November. These codes are set to replace 29 existing labour laws. According to union representatives, the proposed labour reforms are “anti-worker” in nature and impose stringent norms for trade union registration.

Bank unions have also been demanding a better work-life balance and have reiterated their long-standing demand for a five-day workweek in the banking sector. The strike is also aimed at opposing what unions describe as “growing attacks on the working class.”

Will Banks Be Open on February 12?

As of now, no major public or private sector bank, nor the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has officially declared February 12, 2026, as a banking holiday. Therefore, banks are expected to remain open.

However, normal operations may be affected if a large number of employees participate in the strike.

Bank of Baroda’s Communication to BSE

Bank of Baroda has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) about the potential impact of the proposed strike. In its communication, the bank stated that it has received notice of the strike from AIBEA, AIBOA, and BEFI.

The bank added that it is taking necessary steps to ensure the smooth functioning of its branches and offices. However, it cautioned that in the event of large-scale participation in the strike, operations at certain branches and offices may be disrupted.
